Zunyi Aluminium Co. Ltd, an integrated aluminium smelter under Chalco Group with 410 ktpy aluminium capacity began maintenance of some of its electrolytic cells in early April.
Zunyi Aluminium suspended 20 x 200 kA cells for maintenance, comprising 10 ktpy capacity. According to an internal source, the company is in loss at current low prices and a resumption date after maintenance will be dependent on favorable market prices.
The company produced 400 kt of aluminium in 2019 and has set its 2020 target at the same level. It typically produces liquid aluminium which is supplied to surrounding downstream smelters.
Mainstream aluminium ingot transaction prices were RMB 11,750/t at Guangzhou warehouses last Friday, up RMB120/t on Thursday.
