Wenshan Aluminium smelter, designed with 500 ktpy primary aluminium capacity is scheduled to bring its phase I 180 ktpy project online by end-April.
The company has a total of 368 x 500 kA cells and will bring the project online gradually in three stages of 180 ktpy, 160 ktpy and 160 ktpy respectively. The smelter pays electricity prices of RMB0.28/kWh and is an integrated smelter with an associated 1.6 mtpy alumina refinery (which had 1.5 mln t of alumina output in 2019).
The company has not, as yet, set an annual output target for 2020. Project developments will be subject to market conditions and the operational status of production lines.
The mainstream aluminium price at Guangzhou warehouses was RMB12,270~12,370/t, up by RMB10/t from Tuesday. With continued depressed downstream demand, domestic aluminium prices are expected to be stable over the next few days.
