17th April: MEM (Ministry of Emergency Management) and MEE (Ministry of Ecology and Environment) convened an internet meeting to map out a month-long campaign on troubleshooting and risk mitigation of tailings ponds. The campaign will aim to eliminate hidden dangers by strict implementation of tailings pond rectifications. Joint working procedures will be established with a complete check list including tailings pond details and nomination of a liable person.
The focus of the campaign will be on high-risk tailings ponds, such as those adjacent to villages and residences, ponds on long-term suspension, and those within 1km of major rivers and/or water sources.
