18 September: President Xi Jinping hosted a conference on ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin in Zhengzhou, Henan. At the conference, environmental principles of prioritizing ecological and green develop were reiterated.
Antaike analysts believe discussions at the conference signal more stringent environmental controls for the Yellow River Basin, which is a major alumina and aluminium producing region in China. According to Antaike, 61.8 mtpy alumina capacity and 19.38 mtpy of primary aluminium capacity accounting for 70.9% and 47.6% of the national total respectively – are located within a 100 km radius in the Yellow River basin area.
