SMM: China produced 515.7 kt of refined zinc in September, up 3.3% on-month and up 15.43% on-year. China’s refined zinc output totaled 4.25 mln t during the first nine months of 2019, up 7.08% on-year.
Domestic refined zinc output continued to climb, hitting a monthly new high in September. Prompted by relatively high profits, smelters were keen to expand production by increasing input and delaying overhauls. Refined zinc output from smelters including Hanzhong, Zhuzhou Smelters’ Group, and Sihuan have climbed slightly. Meanwhile, smelters such as Hechi Nanfang, Chifeng Zhongse and Xing’an Cu/Zn have contributed considerable output growth after completing maintenance during September.
Looking forward to October, domestic refined zinc output is expected to rise by 1.09% on-month and 13.5% on-year to 521.3 kt, thanks to smelters ramping up operations post-maintenance.
