Chia produced 537 kt of refined zinc in December 2019, up 1.18% m-o-m and up 19.76% y-o-y. Most domestic smelters had been running at full capacity driven by high profits during December while some were still on regular maintenance such as Luopig Zinc and Electricity in Yunnan or getting ready for resumption after overhaul such as Henan Yuguang and Yunnan Hualian.
Looking forward to January 2020, most large zinc smelters will be operating during the Chinese New Year Holiday but some small-medium smelters will suspend operations. SMM forecast domestic refined zinc output at 528.9 kt, a slight decline of 1.53% m-o-m.
