SMM: China produced 5.62 mln t of alumina (SGA) in December, with daily average output at 181 kt, a slight decrease of 0.26% m-o-m. China produced 70.42 mln t of alumina in 2019, down 2.47% y-o-y. The monthly decline can be attributed to continued refinery production cuts from November on tightening bauxite supply, together with falling prices and environmental issues. Furthermore, production growth from Guangxi Tiangui was slower than expected and Luoyang Wanji reduced its production to 800 kt in December.
Looking forward to January 2020, refineries including Guangxi Tiangui, Guangxi Xinfa and Xinghua Technology are likely to increase their monthly output. SMM forecast China’ s alumina output (SGA) at 5.58 mln t in January, with daily average output falling slightly to 180 kt.
