8 August: The local authority of Xiaoyi published the ‘Notice on Environmental Protection during the of the Second National Youth Games’. According to the Notice, Xiaoyi Government will intensify environmental control on the chemical industry from August 8 to 20 2019, by controlling producers’ unorganized emission, implementing off-peak operational plans as well as cutting capacities and reducing emissions for coking producers. Local Xiaoyi alumina refineries are required to cut operations by 50% during the period.
SMM data show 7.9 mtpy of completed alumina capacity at Xiaoyi. Domestic alumina prices have been in decline since end-May, falling by 23% to RMB 2,442/t on 7th August.
