30th April: Shanxi Xiaoyi Huaqing refinery, with designed alumina capacity of 450 ktpy, has completed maintenance on one coal gas furnace and resumed normal operations.
Xiaoyi Huaqing produced 23 kt of alumina in April, declining from 30 kt in March. The company chiefly uses local bauxite for refining, producing 310 kt of alumina in 2019.
Mainstream alumina transaction prices in Shanxi are RMB2,090~2,140/t at present, up by RMB30/t from the beginning of this week. Refiners are holding firm on prices while smelters remain watchful, resulting in a flat market.
