China Customs: China imported 5.29 mln of nickel ores in June 2023 (WMT and DMT combined), up by 41.6% m-o-m but down by 22.7% y-o-y.
China imported 5.24 mln t of nickel laterite in June 2023, up by 41.1% m-o-m and up by 23% y-o-y. Of the total, imports from the Philippines rose by 45.8% m-o-m to 4.89 mln t. China imported 45 kt of sulfide nickel ore in June, up by 123.9% m-o-m. Nickel ore supply has been increasing steadily led by a shipment peak time and strong downstream demand. Looking forward to July, China’s nickel ore imports are likely to continue the upward trend driven by the beginning of winter replenishment plans of steel mills.
