NDRC published the ‘Key Points of Resolving Excess Capacity of Thermal Power 2020’ and underline that:
- Installed thermal power capacity in China must be contained under 1.1 billion kilowatts by end-2020
- Thermal power generators on the ‘to be eliminated list’ must be dismantled by end-2020, except for those defined by local government as substitute power supply sources for emergencies
- There must be strict control of new thermal power capacity in all regions, overall control on thermal power projects is to be strengthened, and the role of planning and guidance must be enhanced
- The work of resolving excessive thermal power capacity and guaranteeing power and heat supply must be balanced. The scale of thermal power production is to be appropriately managed – according to actual needs.
