IM Mengtai aluminium smelter was designed with primary aluminium capacity of 400 ktpy. However, due to a limitation of production quotas, the smelter has been operating at only 180 ktpy over the past year. The company has since acquired sufficient quotas and began operating the remaining 220 ktpy capacity at the beginning of this week. It is expected that full capacity operation of 400 ktpy will be reached within the next three months.
IM Mengtai smelter came online in early 2018, producing 130 kt of aluminium output within the year. The company has produced 105 kt of aluminium during the first seven months of 2019.
Mainstream aluminium ingot transaction prices were RMB 14,320~14,420/t at Shanghai warehouses this Thursday, an increase of RMB 40/t on Wednesday.
