Liaoning Bayuquan Port expects to handle 900 kt of alumina imports in H1 2020, a spike from 150 kt for the whole year of 2019.
According to an inside source, the company has unloaded 700 kt of imported alumina in the year to date and five to six alumina shipments totaling 200 kt are scheduled to arrive at Bayuquan in the coming month. 150 kt of alumina imports are expected to be unloaded at Bayuquan Port in May, remaining steady from April.
Bayuquan Port has one berth affiliated with two packing machines designated for imported alumina, capable of handling 6 kt of imported alumina per day. Total port charges for imported alumina at Bayuquan Port are approximately RMB47.5/t at present up by RMB5/t from Q1 2020.
China imported approximately 1.3 mln t of alumina in the first four months of 2020, in comparison to 1.6 mln t for the whole of 2019.
Mainstream alumina import prices currently stand at USD260/t CIF China.
