11 May: Henan Kaiman, designed with 2.2 mtpy alumina capacity resumed full capacity operations in late April, seeing output up by 20 kt from that in March.
In the wake of falling bauxite prices and rising alumina prices, the company resumed full operations in late April, increasing from an 80% operational rate. The company produced 180 kt of alumina in April, up from 160 kt in March and May output is estimated to rise to 190 kt.
Kaiman presently has five alumina production lines, produced 2 mln t of alumina in 2019 and has set its 2020 output target at the same level. The company currently holds no stock.
At present, mainstream alumina transaction prices in Henan are RMB2,140~2,190/t ex-work, an increase of RMB50/t from last week. Most smelters have been cautious, resulting in few transactions on the spot market.
