SMM: China produced 12.566 kt of refined tin in July 2019, down 2.1% on the previous month. The decline in output was mainly attributable to production cuts by several smelters in Yunnan due to a shortage of raw materials, and reduced production in Jiangxi due to limited profit margins. However, most smelters that were on maintenance in June resumed normal production in July, so July’s decline output was smaller than that in June. Recently, most smelters have said their production and operation are all in loss. If prices of refined tin continue at low levels, with a scarcity of raw materials and weak downstream consumption, output is like to decline in future. Refined tin output is expected to be 12 kt in August.
