17th March: Huiyuan Aluminium, with alumina capacity of 800 ktpy, is postponing its alumina resumption to an undisclosed future date from end-Q2 2020.
The company has two alumina productions lines – each with 400ktpy capacity. Huiyuan originally planned to renovate one production line to allow it to use imported bauxite but due to liquidity problems and other issues the plan has been delayed.
The company started cutting operations in late July 2019 and suspended all operations in September 2019. It produced 320 kt of alumina in 2019.
At present, mainstream alumina transaction prices are standing at RMB 2,590-2,640/t ex-works in Henan, holding firm from last week.
