Henan Zhongmei Alumina refinery, designed with 400 ktpy alumina capacity, suspended its 1,350/day alumina calcination furnace on 20 September in response to environmental requests from local government. The company resumed furnace operations last week after maintenance.
The company produced 20 kt of alumina in September and its October output is expected at 30 kt. It chiefly sells to local aluminium smelters in Henan under long term contracts and has no alumina inventory at present.
The company produced 360 kt of alumina in 2018, and its 2019 output is expected to be the same, with output totaling 260 kt during the first three quarters of 2019.
In Henan, mainstream alumina prices are between RMB 2,580~2,630/t, up RMB10/t from last week.
