24th December: Jiaozuo Wanfang raised its severe air pollution level from ‘Orange’ (Level II) to ‘Red’ (Level I) at 6 PM on 23rd December, with a date of alert alleviation and cancelation yet to be determined.
During the red alert period, industry producers must implement emission reduction measures in strict accordance with ‘Red’ alert requirements. Chalco Zhongzhou, an alumina refinery in Jiaozuo with 3 mtpy capacity, is required to cut its clinker and calcination processing by 50%, by production lines. Jiaozuo Wanfang, a smelter with 350 ktpy capacity, is not impacted by the policy.
