East Hope Sanmenxia, designed with 2.5 mtpy alumina capacity is aiming for 2.4 mln t of alumina output in 2020. East Hope produced 120 kt of alumina last December.
According to an internal source, the company is currently running at 60% operational rate due to stringent environmental rules applicable during winter and will resume full capacity operation in mid-March 2020 when the winter heating season comes to an end. The company has no plans to use imported bauxite at present, due to relatively high overall costs.
East Hope Sanmenxia produced 2 mln t of alumina in 2019, which was sold to East Hope’s aluminium smelter in Xinjiang and typically holds no inventory.
At present, mainstream alumina prices are standing at RMB2,440~2,490/t ex-works in Henan, the same as last week.
