Processing charges (PC) for zinc concentrates surged by RMB 500/t on-month in January 2019 to RMB 5,900/t, an eight year high point. Looking forward, domestic PCs are expected to climb further to RMB 6,000/t. Due to limited smelting capacities at major large smelters – and despite increased profit margins – domestic refined zinc output is expected at 1.3 mln t for Q1 2019, a year-on-year decline of 7% and a decline of 4.7% from Q4 2018.
