China produced 44.6 kt of NPI (in Ni metal) in June, up slightly by 0.81% m-o-m but down 9.85% y-o-y. Some new high-NPI capacity came online in June while some high-cost NPI smelters suspended operations or changed to production of other alloys.
SMM forecast domestic NPI output to grow by 0.61% m-o-m to 44.9 kt (in Ni metal) in July led by resumptions of previously idled capacity. Soaring nickel laterite imports expected in July will largely ease the supply shortage, and this, together with increasing new NPI capacity coming online, sees SMM project a slight uptick in monthly output for July.
