As of 17th February, mainstream magnesium prices were being quoted at RMB 21,100~21,200/t ex-works by cash with taxes in Fugu Shaanxi, while mainstream transactions prices were RMB 21,000~21,100/t, down by RMB 700/t from a week ago, and down by RMB 1,000/t from the highest point after the Chinese New Year holiday. Prices in other major producing regions followed suit.
The rapid fall in prices can be attributed to sluggish demand in conjunction with falling prices of coal and FeSi, industry commentators forecast prices to remain at low levels over the short-term.
