China produced 81.6 kt of primary aluminium in September 2022, up by 10.57% m-o-m and up by 62.07% y-o-y. China’s total magnesium production during the first nine months of 2022 reached 728.8 kt, up by 28.15% y-o-y.
SMM data shows that monthly magnesium production in September rebounded to the average annual level, seeing most smelters operating as normal, with the exception of several IM smelters that have slowed resumptions due to pandemic control measures. Magnesium demand appeared flat after the National Day holiday (7th October), and domestic smelters were not keen to ramp up operations amid a flat market. SMM forecast domestic magnesium production to remain stable in October, with monthly production at 83 kt.
