CNIA: China produced 394.9 kt of magnesium during the first five months of 2022, of the total, 245.1 were from Shaanxi and 86.5 kt were from Shanxi. Shaanxi produced 43.6 kt of magnesium in May, down by 14.84% m-o-m and Shanxi’s May production were 17.9 kt, up by 4.68% m-o-m.
Domestic magnesium prices are expected to remain weak in June led by relatively stable supply and continuing lackluster demand. However, elevated coal and FeSi prices may prop production costs of magnesium smelters and refrain from a sharp fall in prices.
