China produced 44.7 mln t NPI (in metal) in August up 3.42% m-o-m but down 15.88% y-o-y. China’s high NPI output was 37.4 kt in August up 3.67% m-o-m, and that of low-NPI was 7.4 kt, up 2.18% m-o-m.
High NPI smelters resuming from maintenance in August, combined with rising prices and new capacity startups have driven up overall output during August. Low-NPI output grew following increased output of 200 series of integrated stainless steel producers.
SMM forecast domestic NPI output to drop slightly by 0.09% m-o-m to 44.68 kt in September.
