15th Aug: Chalco Zhongzhou Aluminium, with alumina capacity of 2.4 mtpy, expects to complete maintenance on one of its alumina calcination furnaces by the end of this month.
According to an inside source, the company has five calcination furnaces with daily output of 1,350 t each. One was suspended for environmental upgrades in early July, and is third to be upgraded to date. Chalco is unsure when they will upgrade the other two. August’s alumina output is expected to be 160 kt, less than July’s 175 kt.
Zhongzhou Aluminium produced 2.3 mln t of alumina last year and 1.25 mln t during the first seven months of this year. All alumina is sold to Chalco Trading Group and they do not hold any stock.
At present, mainstream alumina prices are standing at RMB 2,470-2,520/t ex-works in Henan.
