China produced 280.3 kt of zinc concentrates in August, down 3.1% m-o-m and down 22.1% y-o-y. Covid-19 has previously interrupted mining operations and curbed overall domestic zinc concentrate supply. Domestic PC charges are still at a high level showing an uptick of RMB300/t from a low point at RMB5,000/t earlier this year. Meanwhile, domestic smelters are enjoying positive margins in the wake of rising zinc prices and are, consequently, increasing operations. Industry commentators forecast domestic refined zinc output to climb by 36.9 kt m-o-m to 545.9 kt in September.
