CNIA: China produced 969 kt of primary magnesium in 2019, up 12.2% y-o-y. Domestic magnesium prices fell by 3.3% y-o-y during 2019 to average RMB15,949/t, putting domestic smelters under pressure of a y-o-y decline in profit margins.
China consumed 485 kt of magnesium and products in 2019, up 8.6%. Global demand for magnesium also increased during 2019, represented by 452 kt of China exports, up 10.2% y-o-y and accounting for 46.6% of China’s annual production.
