CNIA: China produced 288.3 kt of magnesium during the first four months of 2021, up by 11.3% y-o-y. Of the total, magnesium production was 197 kt in Shaanxi, 37.3 kt in Shanxi and 14.1 k tin Ningxia, an increase of 17.29%, but a decrease of 1.14% and 0.72% y-o-y respectively.
As of end-May, mainstream magnesium was being quoted at RMB18,200~18,300/t in Shanxi, RMB18,000~18,100/t in Ningxia and RMB18,000~18,100/t in Shaanxi. China’s magnesium export prices soared by 59.39% y-o-y to an average of USD3,140/t FOB in May 2021. The averaged magnesium export price was USD2,587/t FOB during the first five months of 2021, up by 25.14% y-o-y.
