Total output of the ten major nonferrous metals including copper, aluminium, lead, zinc and nickel climbed by 2.1% y-o-y to 14.17 mln t in Q1 2020. Of this figure, copper output was 2.29 mln t, aluminium 8.84 mln t, lead 1.19 mln t and zinc output 1.5 mln t, represented by increases of 1.4%, 2.7%, -6.4% and 11% y-o-y respectively. During this period average spot prices for these metals were: copper at RMB 45,316/t, aluminium RMB 13,438/t , lead RMB 14,504/t and zinc RMB 17,142/t, a y-o-y decline of 7%, 0.9%, 16.6% and 22.6% respectively.
China produced 8.84 mln t of primary aluminium in Q1 2020, up 2.7% y-o-y. Domestic alumina output and aluminium products were 16.93 mln t and 10.52 mln t respectively, down by 7.2% and 6.3% y-o-y slowing the fall by 5.8 and 6.2 percentage points during January and February 2020.
