Shanxi Xinfa Xiaoyi alumina refinery, designed with 3.6 mtpy capacity across three lines, resumed operation on one 1.2 mtpy production line last week.
The company had only one 1.2 mtpy alumina production line operational during March due to local bauxite supply shortages. With an increasing number of local bauxite producers resuming operations in late March, the company restarted one additional line last month and presently has two production lines in operation. According to an internal source, the company guarantees only long-term contract deliveries and is currently declining spot orders.
The newly-started line will take two weeks to generate actual output and the company plans to produce 10 kt of alumina in April, the same amount as in March. It produced 3.5 mln t of alumina in 2019.
Mainstream alumina prices sit at RMB 2,120~2,170/t, down by RMB20/t from last week.
