Shandong Luyu Bochuang alumina refinery is set to start construction on a second 800 ktpy alumina production line in Q2 2020 in addition to its existing 600 ktpy line.
According to an internal source, associated infrastructure construction was completed by end-2019, and further project development is scheduled to begin in May or June 2020. Project completion is unlikely within 2020.
After Luyu Bochuang came online in early 2019, it produced 500 kt of alumina during the year. The company’s first 600 ktpy alumina production line is running at full capacity, with February output estimated at 45 kt, the same amount as in January. Luyu Bochuang typically sells to an aluminium smelter under the same parent company in IM instead of selling onto the market.
Mainstream alumina transaction prices now stand at RMB2,460~2,510/t, ex-work in Shandong, up RMB10/t on-week.
