Shanxi Jiaokou Xinghua Technology, (under Chalco Group), has total alumina capacity of 900 ktpy consisting of two alumina production lines – 350 ktpy (HT) and 550 ktpy (LT) respectively. Due to a further tightening of local bauxite supply, Xinghua suspended the 350 ktpy HT production line in early December 2019 and is currently just operating the 550 ktpy LT production line using Australian bauxite. The 500 ktpy LT line consumed 130 kt of Australian bauxite in February.
At present, the company has 20 kt of local bauxite in stock, which will have built up to 70 kt by end-February, so the company is considering restarting the 350 ktpy HT production line at the end of the month.
The company is capable of consuming 2.7 mln t of bauxite per annum. It used 1.1 mln t of domestic bauxite and 600 kt of imported bauxite in 2019.
Mainstream bauxite prices (A/S 5.0 grade) now stand at RMB480~510/t, delivered without tax in Shanxi.
