Shanxi Xinfa Xiaoyi alumina refinery suspended one calcination furnace due to a shortage of coal gas recently, curbing capacity by 600~700 ktpy. The time of resumption is as yet to be determined.
Xinfa Xiaoyi refinery has designed alumina capacity of 3.6 mtpy with 3.2 mtpy in operation at present. Thanks to rich local coal resources, coking plants are clustered at Xiaoyi, capable of providing low-cost coal gas to local alumina refineries. However, most local coking plants have cut capacity by 30~40% due to coal supply shortages as well as a suspension of logistic services. An increasing number of alumina refineries in Hebei and Shanxi are likely to cut or suspend operations in the short term.
