20th January: Miao Wei, Minister of MIIT, said that in 2020, relevant authorities will continue to consolidate capacity reduction of steel, primary aluminum, cement, flat glass and coal, and continue to clear ‘Zombie’ producers – that is, producers with obsolete capacity who have been mired in long-term loss. Authorities will also need to implement major technological transformation projects, accelerate the transformation and upgrade of traditional industries, and further implement intelligent manufacturing.
