Wenshan Aluminium in Yunnan currently has three bauxite mines in Yunnan with total mining capacity of 2 mtpy. The company is set to develop a new bauxite mine with resource reserves of 5 mln t located about 30 km away from its alumina refinery.
The company produced 2 mln t of bauxite (Al2O3 52% min, A/S=7.0 grade) in 2019 and its 2020 production estimated to be the same.
Wenshan Aluminium was designed with 1.6 mtpy of alumina refining capacity, capable of consuming 3.7 mtpy bauxite, meaning the company will still need to seek an additional 1.7 mln t of bauxite supply from the market. Wenshan Aluminium consumed 3.5 mln t of bauxite in 2019, the same as 2018 and currently holds 400 kt bauxite in stock.
Mainstream bauxite (A/S=7.0 grade) prices are RMB230/t delivered without taxes.
