2 January 2020: A total of 5.5 mln t of bauxite was imported via Laizhou Port in 2019, surging by 20% y-o-y from 4.6 mln t in 2018. Designed with total throughput capacity of 6 mtpy, 5.5 mln t of bauxite is expected to be imported via Laizhou Port in 2020, the same as 2019.
Laizhou Port has two 100 kt berths. Bauxite imports arriving at Laizhou Port are mainly from Australia, which are then shipped to Shandong refineries via inland river transport.
Total port charges at Laizhou Port are no more than RMB20/t, but are likely to increase in the short term.
