Henan Zhongmei Alumina refinery, designed with 400 ktpy alumina capacity, suspended its 1,350 t/day alumina calcination furnace at the beginning of November in response to environmental requirements during the designated severe air pollution period. A restart date has yet to be decided.
The company has two 200 ktpy production lines only one of which is operational, and is producing aluminium hydroxide. However, due to thin margins, the company is not looking to sell on the spot market.
The company produced 360 kt of alumina in 2018, with its 2019 output expected at 300 kt. It produced 30 kt alumina in October and there will be no output in November.
In Henan, mainstream alumina prices are between RMB 2,570~2,620/t, down by RMB 10/t from early last week.
