28 October, SMM: In anticipation of a shortfall in NPI supply at the beginning of 2020, China Tsingshan Group, the world’s largest stainless steel producer is currently seeking refined nickel supply from the market. This is the first time that Tsingshan Group has purchased a large amount of refined nickel from LME warehouses.
Since the Indonesian government brought forward a ban on exports of nickel laterite to December 2019, traders have been busy restocking nickel, seeing LME nickel inventories fall to 12-year lows and prompting China’s importation of nickel laterite and NPI.
