China imported 9.04 mln t of bauxite in August 2019, down 6.41% m-o-m but up 14.56% y-o-y. China’s August imports from Guinea were 3.64 mln t, down 19.86% m-o-m, Australia 3.63 mln t, up 7.92% m-o-m, and Indonesia 1.13 mln t, down 13.73% m-o-m. Guinea, Australian and Indonesia remain the top three bauxite suppliers to China, accounting for 92.99% of the monthly total.
China imported 120 kt of alumina in August, down 40% from 200 kt in July 2019- (which was the highest level since November 2017). China’s total alumina imports amounted to 640 kt during the first eight months of 2019.
NBS data shows China’s alumina output reached 6.04 mln t in August, marking the lowest point since October 2018. China’s alumina exports were 3.56kt in August, down 19.5% m-o-m.
