Xinfa Feimei Aluminium Co. Ltd. at Luliang Shanxi plans to resume production of alumina on 15th September 2019, having previously suspended operations due to a red-mud leak in mid-May.
Feimei Aluminium, designed with 2.8 mtpy alumina capacity, has four 700 ktpy production lines. The company’s 2019 output before the suspension in May was 1 mln t. According to a source, the local government is urging Feimei to resume operations in consideration of taxes and employment issues. Feimei completed required environmental upgrades in July and currently holds bauxite stocks to sustain alumina production for one month.
Feimei produced 2.7 mln t of alumina in 2018, but its 2019 output is expected to fall drastically on-year due to the 3-month suspension.
Mainstream alumina transaction prices in Shanxi were RMB 2,520~2,570/t on Monday, ex-works, an increase of RMB 20/t from last Friday.
