EGA (Emirate Global Aluminium) recently announced that GAC (Guinea Alumina Corporation), its subordinate in Guinea, had begun exporting bauxite from Guinea. GAC’s bauxite mine project in Guinea has 12 mtpy designed capacity.
The first batch of GAC’s bauxite exports marks completion of EGA’s strategic upstream expansion and that the company has become a comprehensive producer in the industry.
EGA has previously been reliant on third-party, traded bauxite for its alumina refining needs. The GAC bauxite project, with development costs of USD 1.4 bln is the largest greenfield project in Guinea in the past 40 years.
