This week (25~29 March): Domestic alumina prices continued their downward trend during the week, seeing transaction prices in the northern market falling under RMB 2,700/t and bearing down upon domestic bauxite prices. In addition, February’s single-month bauxite import record of 8.89 mln t is indicative of increased usage of imported bauxite in ore blending and conversion to the low temperature process, leading to a slight decline in domestic bauxite prices.
In the wake of continuous falling alumina prices, procurement prices for bauxite have been on the decline. At present in Shanxi, local bauxite prices are RMB 470~490/t delivered without tax (Aa: 60%, A/S: 5.0) and RMB 350~360/t delivered without tax (Aa: 60%, A/S: 4.0). In Henan, prices are RMB 300~320/t, delivered without tax (Aa: 58%, A/S: 4.0), and RMB 420~450/t, delivered without tax (Aa: 60%, A/S: 5.0). In Guizhou, prices are RMB 250~300/t, delivered without tax (Aa: 60%, A/S:5.5~6.0).
