Guinean president Alpha Conde has announced that all foreign bauxite miners operating in Guinea with a minimum bauxite mining capacity of 15 mtpy per annum must invest in development of local alumina refineries in a bid to increase the added industrial value and help industrialization in Guinea.
Two bauxite miners with Chinese investments have already responded positively. SMB has plans to develop a 1.4 mtpy alumina project in Guinea and CHICO (China Henan International Cooperation Group Co. Ltd.) is prepared to build a 1 mtpy alumina project in Guinea.
